Apple Has Started Assembling The iPhone-12 In India

Apple will soon start manufacturing the iPhone 12 in India, the Cupertino giant has now confirmed, shortly after reports cited unconfirmed sources as saying that Apple will make the iPhone 12 models at its Foxconn facility in Tamil Nadu.

“We are proud to be starting production of iPhone 12 in India for our local customers,” Apple told IANS in a statement. “Apple is dedicated to making the best products and services in the world to delight our customers,” the company added.

With its plan to manufacture iPhone 12 smartphones in India, the company will be able to benefit from the government’s production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme. The move to locally manufacture the iPhone 12 will also make the smartphone more affordable in the country although it may be a while before that change starts reflecting for the end customer.

The iPhone 12 series was launched in India in October 2020. It is expected that Apple is seeking to benefit from the government of India’s production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme that was announced last year, in order to encourage more international countries to set up shop in the country. Apart from Foxconn, Wistron and Pegatron are also reported to act as production partners for iPhone 12 manufacturing.
